Teaching means give the instruction to person, give person knowledge skill, and to instruct or train someone. The teacher should have a method to teach writing descriptive text using self portrait picture. The purpose of this study are (1) To describe the implementation of self portrait picture in teaching writing descriptive text in the seventh graders of SMPN 1 Paciran. (2) To find out the problems faced by the teacher and the students in the implementation of self portrait picture in teaching writing descriptive text in the seventh graders of SMPN 1 Paciran. (3) To describe the students? responses toward the implementation of self portrait picture in teaching writing descriptive text in the seventh graders of SMPN 1 Paciran.
Based on those purposes, this study was conducted qualitively. It tries to get information that in the context of study. This study described the implementation of self portrait picture in teaching writing descriptive text, also described the teacher?s and students? problem in implementing self portrait picture and the students? responses toward this implementation, and gave pictures during teaching and learning process as document. The researcher used four instruments in conducting this study : observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation.
Overall, the finding of the study indicates that : (1)Teacher has implemented self portrait picture and makes students more active and creative because they have to express their feeling and realizing based on their selves. (2)The problems appeared because students? characteristics were shy and passive. (3)Teacher translated her instructions using English by Indonesian because many students did not understand the instructions. (4)Most of the students like to learn writing descriptive text using self portrait picture.
