Human life is complex, we can?t deny that social conflict always appears and occurs in Human life. Social conflict is the struggle between two or more forces in a narrative work. The researcher formulated the purpose of the study as follows: 1) To find the social conflicts by Oliver Haddo as the main character in The Magician novel. 2) To find the resolutions by Oliver Haddo as the main character in The Magician novel. 3) To find the effects of social conflict by Oliver Haddo as the main character in the Magician Novel.
The method applied in this study is qualitative research which presents the description of certain concepts. The research data of this study are social conflict in the main character. The data are quoted from the content of the novel. In analyzing the novel, the researcher used theory of character and theory of literary approach because this study concerned on why the main character obtained social conflict in the novel.
The result showed that the main character obtained the social conflict with some persons because he feels humiliated and unhappy. The main character succeeded to solve the social conflict by his argue and act. The social conflict by the main character has many effects to people around him in The Magician novel. From all of the data it can be concluded that the social conflict that obtained by the main character has a big effect to many people around him. The people change and do things that they never done before.
For the readers of this study,the reader can learn many aspects from this study, besides, the reader will be able to get pleasure and entertaintment from reading this novel. In addition, the reader can learn character?s behaviour in novel in the form of sociological aspect. For the future researchers, it is needed to continue this research comprehensively so that it can uncover all aspects of the whole story. Then, it is also needed with different theories in order to make literature, in this case is ?The Magician? novel can develop well.
