This research is a sociolinguistic study focusing on slang words used in Pitbullrap songs according to Yule?s theory.This study conducted to find the answers of the following questions: (1)What are the slang words used in Pitbull?s songs? (2) What are the classifications of the slang words used in the Pitbull song lyrics?
This research used descriptive qualitative research as it concerned with the analysis of slang words in Pitbull?s song lyrics. The steps of getting the valid data in this thesis are collecting song lyrics of Pitbull, then choosing six songs to be analysed. Furthermore, to analyse the data the steps of this thesis are reading and comprehending the lyrics, identifying and marking the slang words found, coding slang words found according to Yule?s theory, categorising the data collected, describing each slang words found, interpreting the meaning, and drawing the conclusions.
After analysing the data, there are 29 slang words found in Pitbull?s six songs.Meanwhile, the types of word formation of the slang words found are categorized into five types. They are ?til, tryin?, ?cause, ?bout, ?cuz, Yo, ol, ?emfrom clipping. Then in blending there are outta, I?mma, ain?t, y?all, gonna, wanna. From coinage eleven words are found, they are groovy, broads, nigga, bustas, bitch, chips, dawg, papo, chico, hollah, mami. In acronym there are two words fround, they are DJ and JFK. Then in derivation there are two words found, they are groupie and homie.
