This thesis has two objectives : to describe the process of using YouTube videos to improve the students? writing skill in descriptive text, and to know how the students responses toward the use of YouTube video used in writing class.
This research used classroom action research method which was done in two cycles, and each cycle consists of four stages; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of the research is 32 students of VIII-A class at SMPN 2 Rengel. It was done on May 2017. There are three instruments of the study: observation checklist, questionnaire, and test.
The result of this research show that teaching and learning by using YouTube video can improve the students? writing skill in descriptive text and thestudents gave positive responses. Regarding the students? writing skill, the improvements include: the students are able to develop their idea, use appropriate grammar, and master how to use correct spelling and puntuation. Related to the students? responses, they do not feel bored and enjoy the class in the teaching and learning process.
The research findings of this study shows that YouTube video are very useful to improve the students? writing skill. Therefore, it is recommended that the English teacher should apply YouTube video in teaching and learning process, the students are able to search other video for their media in studying, and for other researchers they are suggested to apply YouTube video in conducting research for other topics.
