The objectives of this research are to find out the correlation between the students? chievemnet in using simple past tense and their ability in writing recount text and the students? difficulties in writing recount text at the tenth grade of MA. Al-Qudsiyah Plumpang Tuban. The research populatin was the tenth grade students of MA. Al-Qudsiyah Plumpang Tuban. The research sample was X-A which consisted of 32 students.
This research is quantitative descriptive research that is designed to give the explanation about the correlationship between two variables. The first variables is the students? achievement in usig simple past tense (as variable X) and the second variable is their bility in writing recount text (as variable Y). The technique of the data collection were test to find the correlation and questionnaire to find the students? problems in writing recount text. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson?s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Significance of Coefficient Correlation Formula, using 0,05 (5%) significant level with 30 (32-2) degree of freedom (df).
The researcher found that t counted (7,911) was higher than t table (2,042). It means that there is a significant correlation between students? achievement in using simple past tense and their ability in writing recount text at the tenth grade of MA. Al-Qudsiyah Plumpang Tuban. Then the students? problems in writing recount text they are the students lack of vocabulary, developing the topic and lack ability of grammar.
