The purpose of this research is to analyze the students? competences in predicting information from the pictures on reading text at the second grade of students in MTs Salafiyah Merakurak, and also to know the students? problems in predicting information faced by the students.
In conducting this research, the researcher used descriptive analysis as the design of the research. Then, the subject of this research is the second grade of the students of MTs Salafiyah. As the instruments of the research, the researcher used test and questionnaire. The test are matching pictures , multiple choice, and fill in the blank questions. Then, the writer calculated the mean from overall scores of test and questionnaire .
The result of the data analysis can be seen that no student was classified in very good competence, 10.71% students was classified in a good competence, 64.28% students was classified a fair competence, 21.42% students was classified in a bad competence, and 3.57% students was classified a very bad competence. Moreover, the researcher found that there are some problems mostly faced in learning English reading from the test. The first problem is the students? difficulty in understanding the content of the text and the second problem is monotonous teaching method. The teacher did not use an interesting media for reading leraning process.
