Abstract

Classroom management is the essential teaching skill. To bring the students? maximum potential, the teacher should have a various strategies in managing English Class. The purposes of this study are (1) To know the classroom managementstrategies used by the teachers in teaching English. (2) To knowthe teachers? problem in conducting classroom management strategies. (3) To analyze the students? perception to the teacher?s classroom management.
The research design used by the teacher is descriptive qualitative. It tries to get the information that in the context of research. This research described instructional strategies that the government teacher and the private teacher used in managing an English class. This research also described the teachers? problems in conducting classroom management, and the students? perception toward their teachers strategies. The subjects of the study are the teacher of SMP Negeri 1 Paciran and the teacher of MTs.Mazra?AtulUlumPaciran. The researcher used three instruments in conducting this research: observation, questionnaire, and interview.
The results of this study showed that both of the teachers have their appropriate strategies in managing their students in English class. The government teacher who has more active students usually applied working in pair and work as an individual. Meanwhile the private teacher who has less confident students sometimes applied collaborative learning to make the students more confident and be active. Furthermore, those teachers have similar problems in conducting English class, those are disruptive behaviour, disciplinary, and lack of vocabulary power. This result also supported by the students? perception to the teachers? classroom management. It showed that the students are active in pair work and collaborative learning, but in some cases, the teachers should give interseting individual task to encorage them learning English.
