English has been considered to be important in all levels of education. In teaching English at junior hight school, reading is one of the English skills that should be learned by the teacher to the students. The aim of teaching English is to develop the students? reading skill so that they can read English text effectively and efficiently. In order to be able to reach that purpose, the teacher should be selective in choosing the appropriate approach, method and strategy.
In this final project the writer wants to know how well the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 27 Sidokumpul master the language skills, especially the ability of reading comprehension and their components, especially the mastery of vocabulary. The basic problem the writer wants to discuss in this final project and what extend is the vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh grades students of SMP Muhammadiyah 27 Sidokumpul in the academic year 2015/2016, and is there any significant correlation between the students? vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension.
The technique of collecting data was by using a test. A try out test was done to find out the validity. After the data of the students? vocabulary mastery and their achievement in reading comprehension were collected, the data were stastically computed to find out the correlation between the two variables.
The result of applying the rxy distribution is shows that the coefficient correlation is 0. 482. It means that there is a significant correlation between the vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension.
