Speaking is linked to success in life, as it occupies an important position both individually and socially. One of the important period to improve speaking skill is incontrovertibly during primary education. Speaking skills are acquired and developed during primary education are significant with regard to both acquisition. it is essential that efficient and effective teaching methods are employed in order to improve speaking skills during primary education. So, drama is one way to improve speaking skill , it has an important impact on language teaching.
This study is descriptive research , which aim to implementation of drama to teaching speaking skill of the seventh years students at MTs Hasyimiyah using drama. In conducting the study, the researcher involved the English teacher, the school principal and the students of VII-C Class. The researcher obtained the data by observing the teaching learning process during implementation of the action and interviewing the students.
In this study, the researcher conducted one cycles of actions. The results of this study showed that the implementation of drama technique is effective to teaching speaking skill. Its cooperative and systematic learning structures motivate students to learn speaking, promote students? self-confidence in speaking practice and maximize students? interaction during the learning process. The students? speaking skill also increases after they tried to learn speaking through drama technique. They were more confident and enthusiastic in speaking practice. This implies that the implementation of drama technique gave positive effects to the improvement of students? performance and achievement in the speaking learning process.
