Frustration is an emotion that occurs in situations where a person is blocked from reaching a desired outcome. In general, whenever we reach one of our goals, we feel pleased and whenever we are prevented from reaching our goals, we may succumb to frustration and feel irritable, annoyed and angry. Typically, the more important the goal, the greater the frustration and resultant anger or loss of confidence.
Figurative language or language style: language which employs various figures of speech. Some example are metaphor, simile, personification and symbol. In general, figurative language is that kind of language which departs from the language employed in the traditional, literal ways of describing persons or objects. Using figurative language is making imaginative descriptions in fresh ways. It is usually immediately obvious whether a writer is using figurative or literal language
In this research, the researcher focuses on analysis of frustration concept and conflict through language style in the 47 ronin novel by Chris Morgan. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative analytic method. The researcher read the script of novel to understand it and identify the data and classified them. Then the researcher was reported the data in order to clarify and analyze the meaning. To find some theories related to the topic of the research, the researcher used some information from books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and websites.
There are four kinds of language style or figurative speech. Those were metaphor, simile, personification, and symbol. The result of the analysis showed that there are four figures of speech that used in the novel. And metaphor is the dominant language style that used in the novel than all.
The researcher hopes this study will be useful to the other researchers who want to study more about figure of speech or language style. This research is also able to give alternative references for other researchers who might be interested to conduct research related to a work of art, especially novel.
