Literature is a work of arts, which expresses our sence, thought, feelings and attitude toward life. Literary work reflects a description of human life with its various problems, expressing of the author?s problem and give more knowledge to understand the value of life. Literature can be devided into poetry, drama, movie, shortstory and novel. The writer chooses one of them, namely movie. The writer choose the movie because she interested in literary work, expecially movie. Movie is one of the most interesting and popular genres of literary work.
Through this study, the writer wants to know the characterization and factor that influenced personality development in A Walk to Remember movie.
This study is analyzing a film entitled A Walk to Remember written by Adam Shankman. The writer used qualitative reseach to find out the valid data. To analyze the study the writer focus on the characteristic and personality development of Landon Charter as the main character. Related to the title of this study, the writer would like to answer two problem statements they are: how is main character characterized in A Walk to Remember movie, And what factors are influencedmain character personality development in A Walk to Remember Movie. The analysis tries to show the characterization of main character and the factors that influence main character personality development.
This study applies personality development theory by Elizabeth Hurlock. This theory was employed as a guidance, so that this study is focusing on analyze the main character?s characterization and the factors that influence the main character?s personality development. Based on the analysis, the character of main character is described as not respectful, naughty boy and rebellious person. But, it is changed when main character meet Jamie Sulivan. He became careful, responsible, gentleman and ambitious. There are five determinants that influence of main character personality development, they are emotional determinant, social determinant, aspiration and achievement, family determinant and education determinant
The writer hopes this study will be useful to the other researchers who want to study more about personality. This study is also able to give alternative references for other researchers who might be interested to conduct research related to a work of art, especially movie
