The study is about the effectiveness of picture series in teaching writing recount text at class VIII of SMP N 1 SARANG . In this final project, the objectives of the study was to find out whether there are any significant difference in the understand students? in teaching writing using Picture series and without using picture series and to identify the effectiveness of picture series as media for teaching writing.
The objective of this research is to examine to what extent picture series as teaching aids can be applied effectively in the teaching of writing a recount paragraph. Wright (1989:2) claims that the use of pictures in teaching learning process has some advantages, He stated that Picture are not just an aspect of method but through their representation of places, objects, and people they are an essential part of the overall experiences we must help our students to cope with. Specifically, pictures contribute to interest and motivation, a sense of the context of the language, a specific reference point or stimulus.
To achieve the objectives of the study, the writer conducted experiment quantitative research. The population of the study was the eighth year students of SMP N 1 SARANG.The sample of the study was conducted in one class (VIII E) as the sample. The data collected test and questionnaire.
In solving the problems, the writer carried out and experimental study using statistical method called t-test. The result of the test above, the result t obtained is 12.13 . It was higher then t critical 2.0452 at level of significance 5% with df 29. It means that teaching writing recount text by using picture series is effective.
The writer suggests in teaching recount paragraph, one of the media that is helpful to teach is picture series as picture series can make students more imaginative and gain many ideas in writing a recount paragraph.Teachers must prepare the media properly order to make the teaching learning successful. The pictures theme should be appropriate with the content material so that the goal of the lesson can be fulfilled.
