In Indonesia English is considered as a foreign language. Learning English as foreign language focuses on several main aspects such as builds students? motivation and makes students easy to learn in class. Teacher should deal with language which is not familiar to the students. It may cause a problem since this problem requires habitual use of target language. Learning English as foreign language involves four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. These skills need to be mastered in order to learn English effectively.
The purposes of this study are to describe the teaching and learning process to improve the students? writing skill on recount text by using digital writing, to know the students? problems, to know the students? improvement in writing recount text that are taught by using digital writing, and to describe the students? responses toward teaching writing recount text by writing digital writing at the eighth grade students of SMP N 04 TUBAN.
This research is done at the eighth grade students of SMP N 04 TUBAN. The writer just takes a class as the subject of the study. Observation, Questionnaire and Tests are used to collect the data. The instrument of observation is conducted at the moments of teaching learning process in order to know the teaching and learning process of improving the students? ability in writing recount text by using digital writing. Second, the test was writing recount text by using digital writing. It was conducted to know what the students? problems and improvement of writing recount text by using digital writing. The third instrument was questionnaire used questionnaire to know the students? responses toward teaching writing recount text by digital writing.
From this study, it can be concluded that the process of teaching and learning writing by using digital writing ran well. The writer used two cycles in this study. There are some problems faced by the students before they use digital writing in writing recount text. The students? problems are they lack of vocabulary, do not like writing, had difficulties in arranging the words and grammar or tenses. However, all of the students could reach the standard score of ?KKM? in the second cycle. The students? achievement increases after the writer used digital writing in writing recount text. Beside that the students responded positively toward digital writing. They were interested and agreed to use digital writing in learning writing recount text. The result of this study that use of digital writing as an alternative strategy in writing recount text succsessfully can improve the students? writing skill.
