Oral corrective feedback has an important role in English class when EFL students make errors. Errors are common characteristic of language acquistion and learning. This research reveals teacher?s oral corrective feedback during the English class, especially in English speaking.
The objectives of this research is to find the kinds of teacher?s oral corrective feedback, the dominant type of teacher?s oral corrective feedback and the reason of teacher?s oral corrective feedback that the teacher gives to the oral students? responses in SMPN 1 TUBAN.
This research used qualitative descriptive method which provides insight into analysis of teacher?s oral corrective feedback and the students? responses toward the teacher?s oral corrective feedback. The researcher used three instruments : Observation, field note, and interview. The observation was used to find the kinds of oral corrective feedback and to know the dominant type of corrective feedback in the classroom. The interview was used to know the reason of teacher?s oral corrective feedback.
The result of this research showed there are six type of corrective feedback that the teacher used in the classroom. 1. Explicit correction, 2. Recast, 3. Elicitation, 4. Metalinguistic feedback, 5.Clarification and 6. Repetition. The dominant type of corrective feedback that the teacher used was Recast feedback. The result of interview showed that the teacher consider three aspects in giving oral corrective feedback. They are : type of spoken error, the learners? proficiency and learning objectives.
This study suggests the teacher to recognize the different types of oral corrective feedback and need to employ output prompting strategies. This study also recommends the students to more be active in the class and no need to worry to practice English. Furthermore, the research recommends the further research to apply in adult level context.
