This research is aimed to know the effectiveness of teaching writing of narrative text by using comic strips and the students? responses after being taught by using comic strips at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Tuban.
The research was carried out at SMA Negeri 5 Tuban. The research method was experimental. The population of the study was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Tuban in academic year 2015/2016. The sample of the research is X5 class that consists of 26 students. There are 16 girls and 10 boys. The students were taught using comic strips. The instruments that are used in this research are test and questionnaire. In this research the researcher uses quantitative method.
Based on the finding of the study, it can be seen that there is significant difference in the result of the students? pretest and posttest. The findings revealed that the mean score of the students? writing test increased from 41.88 in the pre-test to 58.5 in the post-test. The gain score of the students? writing test was 16.62. And the result of t-test is higher than t-table, where the result of t-test is 5.9 and the t-table is 2.06. In addition, students? responses to learning are generally positive. Based on these finding, it can be concluded that comic strips is effective to be use in teaching writing of narrative text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 in academic year 2015/2016.
Therefore, it can be suggested that the use of comic strips can be an alternative way to facilitate the students in writing process and also attract the students? interest in learning English
