Understading literature is quite complicated but challanging, for this reasong the researcher chose this theme in this research, especially for its figurative language. The function of figurative language is to add the beauty and artwork of the lyric.
The writer focused in analizing of figurative language in five songs Michael Jackson. This research deals with the figurative language in the Jackson?s lyrics.The writer chose Jackson?s songs as his lyrics contains of alot of figurative expressions which are challanging to be analized.
This is a qualitative research which is done by some steps, identifying data, the classifying data, and the last describing the result. In analyzing the data the writer analyzed every figurative language that found in those songs, and the last one is drawing conclusion based on the result of data analysis.
There are three figurative in the song ?Man in the Mirror? that are Imagery, Personification and Metaphor, three figurative in the song ?Heal the World? like Metaphor, Hyperbole and Personification, one figurative in song ?Beat It? that is Personification, three figurative in the song ?Thriller? that are Hyperbole, Personification and Onomatopoeia, and there is one figurative in the song ?You Are Not Alone? that is Personification. Finally, this study would be expected to be useful for the readers especially to the students who are interested in analyzing the English literary work.
