The Institute of Education Sciences (2012:7) said that Writing is a process through which people communicate thoughts and ideas. The teacher can help the students. Writing is not easy, but by using Contextual Teaching and Learning method, the learners will learn to write everything arround them.
This teaching and learning concept will be easy to apply to the students. Because this concept use the concrete situation in teaching and learning and it gives motivation to the students to study well. This concept can be used appropriate with condition in the school.
In this study, the purposes are: 1) to know how to increase students? ability in writing a descriptive text through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach, and 2) to know the students responses in writing a descriptive text through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach.
The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative research. This research is classroom action research. There are four instruments to collect data in research. They are questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentation. They include non-test.
There are some obstacles from the result of the observation. The teacher is not maximal in guiding students individually, using the medium of learning, and giving an advanced task. While from the students found some shortcomings. They are not enthusiastic about taking lessons. They do not response to the friend?s work. They are still passive activity on discussions and still a few students who dared to ask questions in the class.
There is a significant the influence of the application of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on the students? ability in writing a descriptive text. That is the students more spirit in learning and teaching English lesson because they think that writing doesn?t make the students feel bore again. It is the first step to make the students enjoy and interested in writing English.
