Language is a means of the communication used by normal human beings to communicate one to another to convey a purpose when they meet. Communication is an essential part of life through verbal or non verbal. People are able to express their thought and to communicate with each other or even with themselves. As a social being, interaction between one with another by means of language is unavoidable.
The purpose of the study are to find out (1) To find types of deixis found in the novel ?Eat pray Love?, (2) To depict the use of deixis in the novel ?Eat Pray Love?.
This study uses qualitative research and the writer uses the text of Eat Pray Love novel as the source of data in chapters: (book one)16, 28, 33, (book two) 44, 52, 61 and (book three) 81, 89, 95. The writer uses several ways or procedure to collect the data. They are getting an absolute understanding of content, conducting examining toward spoken text (direct speech) in the novel, choosing the data dealing with the deixis, coding the data, analyzing the collected data, describing the data and conclussion.
In this analysis, the writer analyzes deixis in the Eat Pra Love novel. The writer found the kinds of deixis and the dominant deixis. The result of this study shows that, there are four kinds of deixis. They are person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis and discourse deixis. The end of the data analysis, the dominant deixis is person deixis.
