In conducting the research, the writer uses descriptive research. Descriptive research is used to reveal the fact that happens at the present time. Thus the writer considers that it is the suitable method to be applied in this study. The data of this study were obtained by means of questionnaire on interest in learning English and records of student achievement in reading comprehension. The questionnaire of interest consist 10 major points. The record on reading comprehension is obtained from the test conducted by the writer.
After obtaining and analyzing the data, the writer finds that 75% of the interested students from class XI IPS1 have score more than 70 and there are only 15% of the uninterested students have score lower than60. The writer also finds 55% of the uninterested students from class XI IPS 2 have score lower than 60 and there are only 45% of the interest students have score more than 70. It can be said the interested students have better score than uninterested students. This can happen because students have interest in learning English. Thus, they do not have much problem in answering the comprehension test given. As the result they have better score.
The writer then gives suggestion to the teacher to make the students more interested in English. She also suggest the students to study harder by doing their homework or reading English magazine.
