The result of the daily test and sumative test for the first semester at MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo Kerekin academic year 2014/2015 shows that only 69% students passed the examination. It is a real fact that many students fail to reach the standard or required score (the minimum passing grade).
Referring to the problems above, it is essential to implement a method or strategy that can solve the problem, that is, a method that can bring students out of boredom, competitive and individual class atmosphere, and is more student-centered, and that can improve students? reading comprehension.
There are a variety of strategies to involve and engage students in reading activities. Anita Lie (2010:23) says that there are three choices of learning models i.e competition, individual and cooperative learning.
Considering thosevarious benefits of cooperative learning for students, this study, therefore, proposes to improve students? reading comprehension by using cooperative learning strategy. Among a number of cooperative learning strategiesor methods, Team Game Tournament (TGT) is chosen to be applied in the classroom to improve students? reading comprehension. One way to make easier in learning English for students is team games tournament methods (TGT).

In line with the research problem, the objective of this research is to : 1) Know how the Team Games Tournament strategy can developed to improve the reading comprehension achievement in descriptive text of the second year students at MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo Kerek. 2) Know how the process of improving students' reading comprehension on descriptive textof the second year students at MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo Kerek. and 3) to know the students response towards TGT.
The design of the research was a collaborative Classroom Action Research, it is a cyclic process, which consists of four steps, namely, planning, implementation, observation, and reflection (Kemmis & Taggart, 1988:15).
The classroom action research design employed in this study was a collaborative classroom action research. In conducting the research, the researcher was assisted by one of his/her colleagues at school. The researcher worked collaboratively with one of the English teachers of MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo Kerek who was involved from the very beginning up to the end of the process of the research activities.
The researcher decided to choose MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo for the setting of his study with the following few reasons. First, MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo as the earliest Islamic school in district of Kerek which is recognized as the most representative or the model of Islamic school in the area. It should really prove itself to have good standard in every aspect, including in education. Thus, the students of MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo are expected to have good ability in every subject, English, for instance. Besides, many people come to visit this school to find out the overall condition of the school, including its quality. Second, most of the students of MTs Salafiyah Margomulyo Kerek, particularly the second and the third year students, still have difficulty in English.
After the Team Game Tournament Technique (TGT) was implemented and developed through three cycles, it is concluded that this strategy can to improve or progress students? reading comprehension of the second year students of MTs Margomulyo Kerek Tuban.
