The purpose of this study are:(1) To identify kinds of closing conversation used by the students of speaking class in a role play situation at the English study program of UNIROW TUBAN.(2)To identify how the closing are used by the students in a role play situation at the English study program of UNIROW TUBAN. (3)To identify why closing conversation are used by the students in a role play situation at the Englishstudy program of UNIROW TUBAN. The scope on this study is discourse analysis.
The design of the study used qualitative approach since the data are in the form of words rather than numbers. The procedure of dataanalysis was transcribing for script, coding the utterance containing closing conversation, classifiying based on the describing, and presenting.
After analyzing the data, the writer found thatkinds of the students closing conversation strategies are; recognize the conversation, present a pressing claim, finish with some kinds of farewel, shifting position kinds , break eye contact , and leave talking behaviors. The ways the students close the conversation strategies such are; open the conversation in conventional way, bring up the topic in a conventional manner, provide a pre-closing statement , governed by tacit and obligation. The reasons the students close the conversation strategies is giving reason to stop the conversation.
