This research focuses on the impacts of Indonesian and English subtitles of film on listening comprehension at eleventh grade students of MA Al-Qudsiyah Klotok. It purposes to investigate different effects of film without subtitle and with subtitle (English and Indonesian Subtitle) for students on listening comprehension and to know main effects of subtitle of films on listening comprehension.
This is a descriptive research. The subject of the study is the eleventh grade students of MA Al-Qudsiyah Klotok. There are 42 Students consist of 18 males and 24 females. In this research, the instruments that were used are observation, test, questionnaire, and interview. The research was held on 18th and 23rd May 2015.
According to the result of the observation, it can be known that that listening watching film with subtitles has a big role to increase the students? to increase the motivation, interest and attention of the students on listening comprehension. From the explanation in the research finding above, the students enjoyed film with subtitle as media of listening comprehension. The result of the test, show the increase in scores on vocabulary test and comprehension test after watched the film with Indonesian and English subtitles. Previously, vocabulary test scores and comprehension test were lower after watched the film without subtitles. The result that was got from the questionnaires show the result of the questionnaires from the participants that most they thought that it could increase or develop their motivation and attention to listening. It can increase their listening comprehension. The result of interview also gave good response to listening comprehension by using film with subtitle. They assume that watching film with subtitles could improve their vocabulary and English pronunciation.
Based on the result of the study, the conclusions of this study are: 1) his research was concerned with the impacts of Indonesian and English subtitle on listening comprehension. By using Indonesian and English subtitle, Researchers found some effects of the use of Indonesian and English subtitles of the film on listening comprehension in the classroom, it makes students more active and enjoy the film on listening comprehension in the class. It motivates students? attention and interest in listening comprehension process. It also improves the students? achievement, especially for vocabulary and listening comprehension. It was evidenced by the increasing in scores on vocabulary test and comprehension test after watched the film with Indonesian and English subtitles. 2) By using Indonesian-English subtitles of film improve English skill of students. They believe it most beneficial in improving their pronunciation, vocabulary, listening and speaking skills.
