Literature is simply another way we can experience the world around us through our imagination. The purpose of reading literary works is two folds: enjoyment and understanding. For academic student, reading literary works gives us something more than enjoyment and pleasure. Academic student expand our understanding and provide us with human insight.
The writer choose one of them namely novel. The writer chooses this genre because she is interested in literay work, especially novel. Novel is a part of literature, and the novel The Gravity Between Us is the subject of novel which will be analyzed by the writer. In the novel The Gravity Between Us there are some characters which support in the novel, but the writer will analyze the main character, Kendall Bettencourt. She is the center of the story and also has a unique character.The problems that will be analyzed in this novel are the social conflicts and its resolution. The writer chooses them because the social conflict is very dominant in the story than the other conflicts. In the novel is a darling, romantic, emotional story about friendship, love and finding the courage to be yourself in movie mogul in the world that affect their companies and the people fans Kendall Bettencourt.
Qualitative research is used in this study. It is a library research done through the descriptive text analysis. While, the data of this study are paragraphs and dialogues which indicated possible information dealing with the problems. The steps to collect data in this research are by reading and trying to obtain good understanding about the novel,choosing the data dealing with the topic of the study, selecting data that are relevant and concerning with the purpose of the study, then categorizing and conducting the description toward paragraphs and dialogues. After the data were collected, the writer analyzed them by describing the evidences and drawing conclusion based on the data.
The Gravity Between Us is an interesting novel, because tell about lesbian?s life. Based on the research which is written in chapter IV, the writer finds conflicts and resolutions in the novel. There are five conflicts that happen in this novel.
