In this study, the writer focuses her study on writing skill especially descriptive text. The students sometimes find some difficulties in writing text. Therefore, it is important for the English teacher to try to find some a ways or creativities to teach this skill. In this matter, media, especially picture, can be used as one way to teach students to write since it can give the real model of the target language.
This study attempts to answer two research questions dealing with the use of picture in teaching writing.The question are: (1) How to apply picture and guided question in teaching descriptive writing of Eighth grade students at SMPN 3 Bancar? (2) How is the students response in using picture and guided question during teaching learning descriptive writing?. Since this study was descriptive qualitative study the writer would describe and analyze the existing phenomena during their study, in this case, the study was done in two meeting which took the Eighth grade of Junior High School as the subject of the study. The place of the study was at SMPN 3 Bancar. Furthermore, there were three kinds instruments used in this study, they were observation checklist, documentation, questionnaire.
Based on the finding, the writer noticed that the use of picture mostly had same activities through it was done in two meetings. The note were about the teacher?s activity, students? activity, teaching and learning process, material and media used.
As a matter of fact the picture is much helpful and effective in developing students? writing ability. This reserch has tried to solve one of the problems in writing skill by using picture in teaching writing (descriptive text). So, it was sugested that other researcher whocare of students? problems in descriptive writing involve other learning media to get the better results and more application to be used in regular classroom teaching and learning process.
