Reading is one of the basic skills of learning English that should be mastered by the students. By reading one can get a lot of information and knowledge. Nevertheless, there are some problems in teaching reading. To get the good result from teaching and learning process, the teacher should have different strategies. One of them is reciprocal teaching strategy. Reciprocal teaching is a reading comprehension descriptive text that focuses on the areas of predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarizing.
In this research, the researcher wants to know the effect of reciprocal teaching on the students? reading comprehension achievement, and also to know the students? responses toward reciprocal teaching.
The research was carried on 21rd until 30th May, 2015. The design used in this research is experimental research that there are two groups, they are 27 students of VII-B as the experimental group (Y) and 27 students of VII-A as the control group (X) of SMP Darul Jannah Al Ma?wa, Paciran, Lamongan. The data is taken from the students; worksheet by using pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving treatment, and explaining the treatment price, and also giving questionnaire to know the students? responses toward reciprocal teaching.
The data from questionnaire show that the students? responses are good.
From the data, the researcher says that the implementation of reciprocal teaching in learning reading comprehension is effective, their understanding in reading to be better and learning process enjoyable.
Based on the data analysis, it shows that the reciprocal teaching has a positive effect on the students? reading comprehension achievement, because the t-value is greater than t-table (4.45>2.00) and the students enjoyed and were able to understand better in reading after reciprocal teaching was applied.
