Writing is one of the important skills in teaching English. People need to learn writing in English, for occupational or academic purposes. Writing can also become source of knowledge; that is because by writing can know the world. The eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Brondong argue that writing is difficult. The students? interest to write English is low. Criteria of Minimal Score (KKM) of the eighth grade are 75. Meanwhile, the students? average score are 60, it is under of KKM. Understanding the fact, the writer is eager to help them by using video as medium to improve writing Recount Text of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Brondong in the academic year 2014/2015. This action research aims are: (1) to describe the students? ability in writing recount text by using video of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Brondong in the academic year 2014/2015. (2) to describe the students? ability in writing recount text without using video of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Brondong in the academic year 2014/2015.
The writer conducted experiment research to solve the research problem. The research was conducted in the eighth A and D grade students of SMP N 1 Brondong in the second semester of academic year 2014/2015. The number of the students in the class A was 30 students and the class D was 30 students. This research used an experiment research design.
The findings of the research showed that the average score of the students in writing recount text without using video is 70, which is categorized as fair. And the average score of the students in writing recount text by using video is 74.5, which is categorized as good. There is an improvement of the students? activity in teaching writing recount text by using video. And from the calculation shows that t- obtained value higher than t- table (3.6>1.98). It means that the students` achievement in writing recount text who were taught by using video was better than the students` achievement who were taught without using video. Video can improve the writing recount text of the students, so it is suggested that the English teacher better uses video as the alternative teaching media to improve students? ability in writing recount text. In addition, the students should practice more in increasing their knowledge, so their ability in writing recount text by using video will improve well.
