IMPROVING THE STUDENTS? ABILITY IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT BY USING CHAIN PICTURES AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP ISLAM JENU IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2014-2015

Foreign language is the language where the secondary environment is not observed and the people of linguistically foreign societies use such language.
This study aims to know the improving of writing ability by using chain pictures at the eighth grade students of SMP ISLAM JENUin writing narrative text. The question formulated as follow: How is the process of improving the students? writing ability of narrative text by Using Chain Picture at the eighth year of SMP ISLAM JENU in the academic year of 2014/2015?
This study uses qualitative research. The methods of collecting data are students? test, observation checklist and questionnaire. The procedure of analyzing the data is the writer analyzes the result of differentiation test, and strengthening by questionnaire. Then describing the process of students? writing test, than comparing the questionnaire as a non instrument to know the students? responses about the used of chain pictures.
The result of this study shows that using chain pictures is very important for the students in the eighth grade students of SMP ISLAM JENU. It also shows that the chain pictures can improve the students? ability in writing narrative text. The students more interest in writing because the chain pictures help them to write narrative text. They get easy to decide what they want to write based on the pictures. Their ability in observe something also increase especially in observe the pictures and write it into the text.
In conclusion, the process of improving students? ability in writing narrative text by using Chain Pictures is done in two cycles. In the first cycle, the students still get the problem about narrative text. Based on the unsatisfactory result in cycle I, the researcher analyzed the weakness of the students in writing narrative text. According the result of the test in cycle I, the students were not able to write some sentences in the past form. Almost of the students still confuse about generic structure of narrative text. So the researcher continued to the cycle II and finally the student can improve their ability in writing narrative text by using chain pictures.
