The study aimed at describing the sentence patterns, the type of sentences, and know the form of English noun phrase in sentences used in opinion column issued by The Jakarta Post Monday, May 04, 2015 and Tuesday, May 05, 2015.
The research approach is qualitative descriptive approach. The analysis procedure is the writer reads and learns the data in opinion column at The Jakarta Post, learns the keyword (noun phrase) and tries to found the form of English noun phrase, collect the data that are in opinion column at The Jakarta Post newspaper, classifying the data each form of words and analyzing the data.
The result of this study is the writer only found based on the type of sentences declarative in both opinion coloumn . While type sentence based on the number of full predication or by construction, the writer finds two kinds of sentences, they are simple and compound sentence. The basic sentence pattern, the writer found three patterns used in sentences of both opinion column. They are S+P+O, S+P+C, S+P+O+ Adv. Based on form of English noun phrase, the writer found noun phrase by adding adjective, noun phrase by noun phrase it self in front of the head word, noun phrase by adding group of preposition and noun phrases with infinitive all behind the head word or keyword.
