English is a means of communication in the new world. Because of this reason the writer decides to clarify the problems as ?Study of the Students? Difficulties in Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Year Class at SMP PGRI 3 Tuban in the academic year 2014/2015.? Statement of the Problems are describe as follows: First, How far is the eighth year students? ability in reading comprehension, what are difficulties that are faced by the eighth year students in reading comprehension and the last is what are the factors that make the eighth year students get some difficulties in reading comprehension.
The aims of this study are described as follows: First, to know the eighth year students? ability in reading comprehension, to find out kinds of difficulties that are faced by the students in reading comprehension and the last to find out the factors that make the students get some difficulties in reading comprehension.
The research design of the study is descriptive one. There are three points in this study, they are students? ability in reading comprehension, kinds of difficulties, and some things that make the students get difficulties in reading comprehension. The subject study of this study was the eighth year students at SMP PGRI 3 Tuban academic year 2014/2015. The instruments of the study are interview, test, and questionnaire. Since the data of the study is descriptive qualitative, the data are reported descriptively.
The result of the study showed that the students? ability in reading comprehension is on low categories. It is proved by the result of the test where the students? mean score is 41.61. Because there are two factors that influencing the students? in reading comprehension. They are linguistic and non linguistic factors. And based on the interview with English teacher the factors that make the eighth year students is non linguistics factors. But one factor that is dominant is the learners, they have less interesting in English, especially in reading comprehension text.
Based on the result of the study, the writer suggests that the students should increase their interest in reading skill. They should not lose interest on reading when they find some difficult words and long sentences. The teacher should give motivation and use visual aids to make the students more interested to learn in English reading, especially in reading comprehension text, so the students? ability can increase.
