AN ANALYSIS OF J.K. ROWLING?S FIGURATIVE LANGUAGES ON NOVEL ?HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER STONE?
Figurative language is not intended to be interpreted in a literal sense. Appealing to the imagination, figurative language provides new ways of looking at the world. It is compares two things there are dfferent in enough ways so that their similarities, when pointed out, are interesting unique or surprising. This study aims at analyzing figurative language in J.K. Rowling?s novel ?Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone? and reveal the message convey the novel. Qualitative research is a search of which the data. Sentences and paragraph of J.K. Rowling?s novel ?Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone? are used as source of data for this research. The object of the study is the use of figurative language in novel ?Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone? there are many figurative languages expression. Having analysis the data, the writer concluded that there are 8 figurative languages found on the novel, such as simile, metaphor, hyperbole, oxymoron, personification, metonymy, symbolism, and irony.
So, from this study the writer provide information for the readers. The writer hopes that the readers can take the positive side and imply in their real life, and for language listeners, the writer want to give information that the figurative language will develop faster through novel rather than poetry. Figurative meaning in novel has many kinds.
