? MAXIM OF POLITENESS PRINCIPLE FOUND IN ? HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER?S STONE? MOVIE
Politeness concerning the relationship between self and other. In conversation, self-identified as a speaker and the other is the listener. In addition, speakers also showed courtesy to third parties that may be present or not.
The purpose of this study, the researcher want to identify maxim politeness principle of ?Harry Potter and the philosopher?s stone? movie and to describe the character using maxim politeness principle.
This research is about the analysis of politeness in ?Harry Potter and the philosopher?s stone? movie. More specifically, this research discussed about obedience conversational maxims that were found in the conversations occurred in ?Harry Potter and the philosopher?s stone?? movie.
This research, applied descriptive qualitative method. Focusing on the problem statements, there are two cases in this study. The maxim of politeness principle used by the character of ?Harry Potter and the philosopher?s stone ? movie and the character of ?Harry Potter and the philosopher?s stone ? movie use the maxim of politeness principle. In analyzing the conversational maxims, the writer used the theory of politeness by Geoffrey Leech (1983 : 105 ). In this theory, the politeness is divided into six parts: the tact maxim, the approbation maxim, the generosity maxim, the modesty maxim, the agreement maxim and the sympathy maxim. The overall findings showed that there were six maxims obeyed in whole of conversations in ?Harry potter and the philosopher?s stone? movie.
The result of the study were found six maxim politeness. Based on contextual meaning from all ?Harry Potter and the philosopher?s stone? movie which used in this research tell about politeness in speech
Finally, the researcher expect that readers understand more about maxim politeness principle , characteristic and kind of maxim as well as understand the meaning cointained on ?Harry potter and the philosopher?s stone? movie. For other researcher, researcher hopes this study will be useful to the other researcher who wants to study more about maxim politeness principle.
