Teaching and learning process have many activity that very important for students and teacher , teacher talk is one of important part in teaching and learning activity. This study aims to analyzing teacher talk in two seleted YouTube videos, the analysis was meant to find out the types of mood in teacher talk and the realization of mood in teaching and learning activity in two selected YouTube videos. It was designed as a qualitative research and discourse analysis.
The object of this study is two selected teaching and learning videos getting from YouTube, data were collected through the videos or documentation as the main source. The data were analyzed using mood structure analysis suggested by M.A.K Halliday. To gain deeper analysis, the data were triangulated by transcribing those videos.
Based on the results of the data analysis, the findings of this research can be stated as follows: (1) All teachers employed two types of mood structure, those types: Indicative mood involves Declarative and Interrogative mood, and also type of Imperative mood for making interpersonal meaning among the students. (2) Both teacher 1 and teacher 2 realized three types of initiating speech function: statement as realization of Declarative mood, question as realization of Interrogative mood, command as realization of Imperative mood and three realizalization of responding speech function as realization of Declarative. The writer hopes that from this research, other researchers can continue the research on the mood structure analysis of classroom activity such as mood structure used by the students, the influence of teacher mood structure in students learning outcomes, so can increase the quality of teaching and learning English especially.
