AN ANALYSIS OF THE STUDENTS? ERRORS IN PRONOUNCING ENGLISH VOWELS AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MTs MAZRO?ATUL ULUM PACIRAN
English vowel is one of the most important things in learning English. Especially for Indonesian student, they only recognize five vowels while there are twelve vowels in English. There are some important components to support students? learning like stress, intonation, pronunciation, speech sound and etc. They are needed to make the students understand and avoided the errors.
The purpose of this study are to know how the students pronounce English vowel, the dominant error and find out the students? difficulties experienced by the students in learning process.
The study uses a descriptive qualitative design. The subject of the study is D class at the seventh grade students of Mts. Mazra?atul ulum Paciran Lamongan. The number of the D class is 25 students. The instruments used in this study were recording tool and test of pronunciation.
The result of this study that 76% of students made errors in their pronunciation. It shows that there are two possibilities. The first, the students seldom hear the right pronunciation of some words (cupboard, heart, and bug) and they used to hear a wrong one.
