This study focused on the use of guessing game in teaching by the seventh year students at SMP Negeri 1 BrondongLamongan. The aim of this study is to find out whether guessing game is effective in improving students' speaking ability, to find out the advantages and disadvantages of Guessing Game technique from the students' point of view, and to find out the strategies used to overcome the obstacles in learning speaking by using Guessing Game technique.
The data from this study were comprised from the result of the observation, the questionnaire and interviews both the students and teacher. To gain the data needed, the writer came to the class to observe the students? activity and the teaching learning process. To gain the students? opinion about how the techniques used guessing game to speaking in order to more smoothly, the writer gave questionnaire distributed to the student. Furthermore, she interviewed the students and the teacher to support the data.
The result of observation, questionnaire, and interview showed that there are some problems faced by students in teaching and learning to speak. The problem is that students are not confident in expressing his opinion. The students are still afraid to speak for fear of wrong in interpreting the word. But by using the technique of guessing game, students become a little more confidence to explain or given an opinion. Because by using the technique of guessing game with media images students to be more interested in talking.
The writer suggests that the teacher should know the problems faced by the students in speaking activity and must be more sensitive about the students? condition. If the teachers were more creative in the learning process, the students become better enjoy the learning process. For example, the teacher can use the technique of guessing game in the learning process so that students can more actively speak or express an opinion with the media from the teacher. Applause and reward given by the teacher have big role toward the students? motivation to express their speaking ability. Moreover, the teacher should be able to motivate the students to speak actively. The teacher should manage the class well. The last, the students must be more active in a speaking class. If they found difficulties toward the lesson, they do not have to be afraid to tell it to the teacher.
