This thesis titled analysis of romance, betrayal and revenge in literary prose or novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas. The objective of the research is to find out that the third point which make up theme and conflict in the novel. The theme of novel is underlying idea that the author is presenting conflicts as is encountering two opposing issues of interest, which may confront the characters, to disapprove, feel pressed or on the other word unpleasant to the opponent.
In literature, human represented as characters or figures. The characters portrayed have the desire hit by the other characters, situations or failure of the character itself to fulfill his wish. In this thesis focused on the analysis of a series of events or plot related to the theme and conflict. Therefore, the analysis starts from how the theme began on the structure of a romance then went to a complication that is the climax betrayal and finally resolved at the conclusion that revenge.
Approaches or methods used for the analysis of this thesis are the intrinsic and extrinsic approach. It can be said that because the analysis focused on the internal elements of the plot and conflict literature which is the outer part of the elements of literature. Plot is a series of events that depart from the issue or conflict to tell. Conflict depicted in the plot literary prose of The Count of Monte Cristo is a traditional conventional. It happened because of the depiction of the plot as prose in general, which is about love and revenge would be a crime there. The theme of revenge story that puts the power to defeat evil and win the favor is characteristic thematic traditional literature.
