As the social people, communication is the most important aspect in human being life. Through communication people can interact each other. To do this, people need a code which is called language to communicate. In the large society, people have to master international language to communicate people in the entire world. Moreover, it is also possible for the bilingual or multilingual people use more than one language in communication. People who are capable of speaking and writing two or more languages well are called ?bilingual?, they commonly mix a language to another in their communication, that is code mixing. The main characteristic of using code mixing is relaxed situation or in informal situation. This study focuses on analysing code mixing used by Boy William in ?Breakout Program? on NET TV.
The objectives of this research are 1). to find out the types of code mixing used by Boy William in ?Breakout Program? on NET TV, 2). to find out the forms of code mixing used by Boy William in ?Breakout Program? on NET TV, and 3). to describe the purposes of code mixing used by Boy William in ?Breakout Program? on NET TV.
This study uses qualitative approach. The data are collected from the utterances of Boy William in ?Breakout Program? on NET TV. The writer collects the data by analyzing the type of code mixing, classifying and describing the forms of code mixing, and describing the purposes of using code mixing in the utterances of Boy William in ?Breakout Program? on NET TV.
The result of the the study shows that there are 3 types, 6 forms, and 6 purposes of code mixing. The types are insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The forms are insertion of word, phrase, hybrid, idiom, clause, and reduplication. And the purposes of code mixing are need feeling motive; prestige feeling motive; asserting status, pride, and power; being more informative; and making jokes.
