ABSTRACT
This research is aimed to know the Effectiveness of using Talking Stick Game and the students? responses toward the game in teaching English for speaking skill at the second class of MTs. Hidayatul Muta?allimin Medalem.
The population in this research were all of the students in the second grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah that consist of two classes 15 students on class A as control group and 15 students on class B as experiment group. The data collection technique in this research used test and questionnaire. The data from the test were analyzed using t-test and the data from quesionnaire were analyzed using formula likert.
The results show that the post-test score with talking stick game of experimental group had an average value higher than the control group. The experimental group had an average value of 18, while the control group had an average value of 8.4. The calculation of t-test with value From the finding, it is known that Tcount is bigger than Ttable(9.69>2.048). According to Ttable with the significance degree of 0.05, confidence level 95% and the degree of freedom (df) 28 is 2.048. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted.
The students? responses toward talking stick game for speaking skill are positive. They felt that their speaking skill improved, the teacher explained interestingly, and they also enjoyed the activities.
It can be concluded, the used of talking stick in teaching English for speaking skill is effective to increase the students? speaking ability.
