In this study the researcher write about ?An Analaysis of Mitch Personality Development Influenced by Morrie as Reflected in Tuesdays with Morrie?. The purposes of this research are divided into three parts. The first is to reveal Mitch Albom?s characteristics as depicted in Tuesdays with Morrie. The second is to find out the descriptions of Morrie Personality. The third is to analyze how Mitch?s personality development influenced by Morrie. The methodology of this study is qualitative descriptive study.
This study was conducted by collecting any relevant data and information about the topic or problem of the study from books and internet that are available for the analysis. The data collection used the following steps: reading the full novel, then selecting the data that will used after that analyze the data with some theories and psychological approach is used because this study analyze Mitch?s Personality Development influenced by Morrie as his favorite teacher at Brandies University.
Based on the analysis, Mitch and Morrie portrayed as the major character. He is a hard work man, smart, boastful, and greedy. Meanwhile, Morrie is described as an old man who is tough, wise, stylish, and devoted. Mitch and Morrie have a nice relationship before they never met for sixteen years. After Micth watching TV and know that Morrie get Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS), Mitch always visits Morrie in West Newton on every Tuesday. During these Tuesdays, Morrie gives Mitch many lessons of meaning of life; love, family, death, money, culture, fear aging, regrets, marriage, and many other things.
From the analysis, Mitch?s Personality Development influenced by Morrie?s lessons and advices to Mitch every Tuesdays. Mitch turns from someone who is boastful and greedy to be wise. Mitch?s self-concept also change, Mitch Albom?s self-concept about happiness and men do not cry also changes. After Morrie?s lessons which is given on and on, Mitch finally changes from someone who thinks that money and achievements will make him happy to one who thinks that love is the only thing that will make him happy. Besides, Mitch also thinks that it is okay for men to cry. There are two main factors determining Mitch Personality Development: the intellectual and educational determinants. Mitch who is characterized as a smart person makes it easier for him to make life adjustment. Meanwhile, Morrie as Mitch?s teacher takes a role as one of the educational determinants that causes Mitch?s Personality Development.
