ABSTRACT
Literature is reflection of the real-life and it probably covers the whole human activities. Literature as one great and universal creation means that it is a result of communication either the emotional, spiritual or intellectual concern of mankind. One of the literature types is novel. Novel is a literary work in the form of prose, in it contains intrinsic elements. In addition to contain intrinsic elements, novel as well have social and moral values. Therefore the writer chose a novel entitled the winner stands alone to be analyzed. The purpose of this study is to analyze in what way the main character, Igor Malev, can be a winner.
The data are in form, of words, phrases, and sentence, of showing ambition in the main character, Igor Malev. And the source of data in this research is the novel the winner stands alone. This study focuses on finding Igor?s concept of being a winner and how this ambition showed by Igor. In order to achieve those objectives, there is a question: how does Igor show ambition of being the winner?
The writter include human as some of the main instruments. The Person as instrument, and the mainmachine in all research is a human researcher. Or a team of human. In qualitative research, the human have a lot to do, planning the study, arranging for situation to observe, putting patches of ideas together, when the writter think about using instruments in research, the writter need to include humans as some of the main instruments. Qualitative research is something defined as interpretive research. All research requires interpretation, and in fact, human behavior requires interpretation minute by minute. But interpretive research is investigation that relies heavily on observers defining and redefining the meanings of what they see and hear.
Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that main character in this novel The winner stands alone Igor Malev so ambitious, he wants to get everything to destroy the world, he become the winner stands alone. his ambition to change the world only for love? In this world there are two camps that argue about ambition, whether the ambition has a good or bad influence on someone. The ambition itself if we want to simplify is the impetus that someone has to achieve the goal to be achieved. How do we as individuals have to behave? In my view, there is nothing wrong, as long as we as human beings can control ourselves as physical and spiritual owners.
Finally, the researcher expects that this analysis can be a stimulus for the university students who are interested in conducting a literary work research to love and learn literature seriously because it can enrich their vocabularies, widen their perception and awareness of life and get enjoyment. For English Teachers, they can learn it to be the input of teaching English to their students and self-knowledge to master English. In other words, he expects that this study will motivate them who love reading and appreciating literature.
