Reading is the most important activity in any language class. In teaching learning process especially in teaching reading recount, the English teacher uses many strategies in teaching reading recount. In teaching learning strategy activities, sometimes many factors affect the student?s reading in the class.
The objective of this study is to describe the learning strategies used by the students in learning English Reading Recount Text.
This study uses qualitative research. The subject of this research was the second grade students consists of one class that is VIII A of MTs.Thoriqotul Hidayah Laren. The instruments of the research were observation, questionnaire and interview.
The finding of this research found that the average use of the six learning strategy is metacognitive strategy (M = 3.69) were reported at the most frequently used learning strategy by all participant, and followed by compensation strategy (M= 3.48), cognitive strategy (M=3.32), affective strategy (M=3.20), Memory strategy (M=3.11), and social strategy (M=2.96). The memory, cognitive and compensation strategy are categorized as direct strategy. The result shows that the direct strategy are used frequently as shown as by its mean sccore 3.30. Almost equally, the use of direct strategy, including metacognitive, affective and social strategy are used frequently as shown by its mean score at 3.28. It can be conclude that students employ both direct and indirect strategy in learning reading recount text.To enhancing students? learning strategy, it required to practice more about how to use the learning strategy itself. Moreover, students also need to acknowledge their learning strategy so the learning process may be effective.
