The purposes of this study are to describe the teaching and learning process to improve the students? writing skill on recount text by using diary, to know the students? problems and improvement in writing recount text that are taught by using diary and to describe the students? responses toward teaching writing recount text by writing diary at the eighth grade students of SMP NU HIDAYATUL ULUM MONTONG.
This research is done at the eighth grade students of SMP NU HIDAYATUL ULUM MONTONG. The writer just takes a class as the subject of the study. Observation, Questionnaire and Tests are used to collect the data. The instrument of observation is conducted at the moments of teaching learning process in order to know the teaching and learning process of improving the students? ability in writing recount text by using diary. Second, the test was writing recount text by using diary. It was conducted to know what the students? problems and improvement of writing recount text by using diary. The last were the instrument of questionnaire which was conducted by distributing the questionnaire to the students to know the students? responses toward teaching writing recount text by writing diary.
From this study, it can be concluded that the process of teaching and learning writing by using diary ran well. The writer used two cycles in this study,there are some problems faced by the students before they use diary in writing recount text. The students? problems are the lack of vocabulary, they do not like writing, had difficulties in arranging the words and grammar or tenses.Finally,all of the students could reach the standard score of ?KKM? in the second cycle. The students? achievement increases after the writer used diary in writing recount text.From the questionnaires which are given to the students, they were interested and agreed to use diary in learning writing recount text.
The result of the study indicates that the use of diary as an alternative strategy in writing recount text successfully can improve the students? writing skill. The writer can conclude that the process of teaching recount text by using diary at the eighth year students of SMP NU HIDAYATUL ULUM MONTONG is very good. The students give positive responses toward teaching writing recount text by writing diary.
