The title of this research is ?Sayuri?s Motivation to be a Famous Geisha In ?Memoirs of a Geisha? Movie By Rob Marshall.? Memoirs of a geisha is a film script get written by Robin Swicord and directed by Rob Marshall. It tells about of Sayuri?s motivation and what does Sayuri do in order to be a famous geisha in the welfare in America. In this thesis, the writer tries to analyze the motivation of Sayuri to become a geisha.
In conducting this research, the writer analyses the motivation of Sayuri by using theory which support her argument The theory which is used is motivation which become the grand theory of the research. Motivation is an energy charge within the person characterized by effective arousal and anticipatory goal reflection (Frederick, 1959:77), thus motivation refers to those reasons that underluie behaviour that is characterized by willingness and volition. (Lai, 2011).
Movie has some basic elements and also record of people?s value, their thought, their problem, and their way of life. The movie which the writer analyze is Memoirs Of A Geisha by Rob Marshall.
Based on the background of the study, there are two problems that are analyzed in this study. The problems are why the main character?s (Sayuri) motivation to be a famous geisha and what does Sayuri do in order to be a famous Geisha. After the writer tried to watch and understand about the motivation of Sayuri that happen in memoirs of a geisha movie, she started to describe about the motivation of Sayuri and what does Sayuri do to be a famous geisha in Memoirs Of A Geisha by Rob Marshall. After that the writer tried to conclude the result of Sayuri?s motivation to be a famous geisha in Memoirs Of A Geisha. Finally the writer to try to give suggestion which are related to the story to make the readers more active and interest in reading literary work.
The result shows that there are 20 scents of Sayuri?s motivation and Sayuri?s doing which are found in the movie. Based on the result Sayuri wants to be a geisha because she wants get her love ?The Chairman?. Sayuri work very hard to make her dream as a geisha comes true. It can be concluded that finding the motivation of the character in the movie gives a new point movie in analysing aspect in the movie.
The writer hope this analysis can help understand better from the Memoirs of a Geisha for the readers.
