Academic achievement or (academic) performance is the outcome of education, the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achieved their educationnal goals. Academic achievement is commonly measured by examinations or continous assessment but there is no general egreement on how it is best tested or which aspects are most important procedural knowledge such as skills or declarative knowledge such as fact.
This research is conducted to analyze the effect of English day towards students? academic achievement at 8th grade of Smp Techno Insan Khamil Tuban, especially in class VIII-A. It is conducted to know the stundents? academic acheivement in English class after having English day, and also the responses of the students towards Englis day.
In conducting this research, the researcher used descriptive analysis as the design of the research. Then, the subject of this research is the eight grade of Smp Techno Insan Khamil Tuban, especially in class VIII-A. As the instruments of the research, the researcher took the document of assessment result, students? academic report, observation recorded in the form field notes and also used interview. Then, the writer describe all of the data.
The result of the data analysis shows that The students feel much more comfortable in casual conversations in English day and academic discussions. The English day activities and the nature of teacher-students relationship is very interesting. Memorizing many structural patterns and doing many grammar exercises are interesting activities for almost of the students.
Furthermore, the teacher made tests are always done in the written form and speaking. This was exactly the students who join in English day were able to do it. The score of their academic report expressed their ability in English, therefore they felt that their ability in English was increased. The students said that they felt more confident and, dare to speak English. Moreover, they are more motivated in studying English after joining the English day.
For the school can add some interesting matterial related to grammer or reading and teaching learning activities such as interactive game and interesting media, then for the students should try to speak more English and for the researcher should pay more attention all of the data.
